Welcome to Lord Beaconsfield Elementary School
Message from Mrs. Patty Neibel-Principal of Beaconsfield School.
Looking forward to a wonderful new School year!
Well, it is with pleasure and pride that I welcome everyone to the new school year (2009/2010). School officially starts on Tuesday September the 8th at 8:40 am. Grades K-6 children will go to their last years' class. All students will be dismissed at 9:30 am on Tuesday September 8th, 2009. Wednesday September 9th, will be a modified half day (dismissal at 12:00 noon) and Thursday and Friday will be regular full days. New Kindergarten students have received a letter, outlining their gradual entry for the first 2 weeks of school. All new Kindergarten students please report to the gym at 8:40 am on September 8th, 2009.
What an exciting and busy first year I have had at Beaconsfield School! It would be difficult to highlight all the projects and activities we have engaged in this year. We have included a new section in our Website entitled "Highlights of the 2008/2009 School year!" Take a look at some of our accomplishments in the last school year.
I have been so impressed with the Staff, Students and Parents at Beaconsfield School. I have been employed with the Vancouver School Board since 1966, and although I have worked in many dynamic schools, this little school certainly has a special charm and positive ethos that permeates the entire school. The students work hard at their academics, they participate in School Sports and after school programs, they have joined the new Gymnastics and Dance Clubs we have initiated this year and they are able to maintain a dedicated and bright, respectful outlook every day that they come to school! I am so proud of them. Of course, we must also give credit to the wonderful parents who were their first teachers and have taught them to be so positive and respectful. I know that our staff work hard every day to instill a sense of diligence and and a strong work ethic in our students. And we all know that when parents and teachers work together, the students benefit.
In the new Highlights section of this website, we will briefly describe the building of our two new beautiful playgrounds-thanks to the Ministry for providing two generous grants and a special thanks to our PAC parent group who worked very hard to supplement the funding. We will briefly describe our TREK project, where our students worked with UBC students in an exciting project, which has culminated into a School/Community garden. We'll take a look at Destination Conservation, Destination Imagination, and the new Gymnastics and Dance Clubs. We'll share some photos and information about our Welcome to Kindergarten event, our wonderful PAC sponsored CARNIVAL, our fun-filled and interesting Intermediate Camp, and some special holiday and theme events our Student Council have sponsored this year.
We are very lucky at Beaconsfield to have an active Sports program, which include Inter-Mural Sports. Volleyball, Basketball, Flag football and Badminton are some of the sports activities the kids enjoy. We have an active Student Council who plan special theme days and fundraisers for the school and for charitable organizations. We have a student Leadership Program, many after school programs, a Tae Kwon Do program, and a Homework Club. This year we have initiated a Gymnastics and Dance Club which have been very successful!
We have worked hard on our School Goals which revolve around Literacy and Healthy Living. This school year we will continue to pursue academic excellence combined with providing our students with many Leadership activities, Sports activities, and extra-curricular activities that we know will help build confidence and develop all round citizens. As the Mission Statement in our School Growth Plan states: The Lord Beaconsfield Elementary Staff recognizes children's individual differences by endeavoring to provide academic and cultural activities enabling students to meet their intellectual, social, emotional and physical potential. As this new school year emerges, we celebrate our recent successes and look forward to another year full of exciting new learning experiences.
